all he wanted this year was a few friends over to swim,

eat pizza,

and sleep over.

nice!

was my initial reaction.

i couldn't do it though.

we played minute to win it games.

the winner got to pick his toppings for the baked bananas first.

then homemade ice cream they made themselves.

we all settled in for a movie and bed at 10.

nothing over the top.

i am excited to see what 11 brings...

but glad he is 10 a few more days.

this is what they do every year our first day home.

the baskets of track and all of the buildings are carried out from the playroom...

into the living room.

the track winds under the leather ottomans,

around the food stool,

taking over every inch of  carpet.

charlie built it with sam's assistance.

big played with it for hours while little napped.

then little took it over.

the village of sodor will stay intact for a few days

until dinosaurs attack,

an army invades,

or hot wheels make it a race track.

introducing...

he watched the gps all day.

figuring out how many hours, then minutes we had until we were home.

he squeaked when we pulled off the highway and tuned towards our home.

we beeped the horn coming down the street.

they jumped up from paige's driveway and met us in ours.

nicklaus was so excited, he was almost crying.

they hugged.

they jumped.

they picked each other up.

then they were gone,

just like that.

catching up.

playing chase.

pretending they were...

nicky and the ninjas.
