on the way to spread out our blankets the boys got invited into a game.

this year he actually saw them.

last year,

we covered his ears...

he covered his eyes.

the colors were brilliant.

the booms rattled your ribs after echoing off the lake and mountains.

the finale was phenomenal.

one of the best birthday parties of the year.

making them.

sorting them.

storing them.

i bought them albums,

printed a bunch of pics from the summer so far,

laid them out,

and let them pick their memories.

nicklaus kept saying how much his children would enjoy looking at his pictures.

not as much as i enjoyed watching him make them.

we had anchored on the shore.

everyone jumped in.

then quickly clamored onto the raft...

the lake is cold!

i don't even think about getting in until august.

charlie would stay in all day.

nicklaus jumps in and out so quickly,

the top of his head doesn't even get wet.

i don't think the cold registers to sam yet...

he is just happy to be with the bigs.
